Looking for the perfect way to spend your Labor Day holiday? We have some incredibly exciting news for families in our community! This year, the Allen Family is hosting a backyard-style Neighborhood Fil-Am Picnic at Reed Park East in Allen, and everyone in our local community—especially families and friends from City Point Church—is warmly invited to join.

At its heart, this gathering is built around fellowship, community, and cultural connection. As we celebrate this holiday, our primary goal is to enhance unity and foster warm, lasting friendships among both Filipino and American families.

The Heart of the Gathering: Food and Conversation

In Filipino culture, food is far more than just sustenance—it is the very component that brings people together. Gathering around a table creates conversation, sparks laughter, and radiates love and well-being. To celebrate this beautiful spirit, we are putting together a spectacular shared feast that blends classic American backyard favorites with beloved, authentic Filipino comfort foods:

  • All-American Classics: Flame-grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, crunchy chips, and plenty of soft drinks.
  • Crispy Lumpia Shanghai: Traditional golden-brown spring rolls that are a staple at any celebration. They are always the number-one request and are guaranteed to be the first dish wiped clean!
  • Savory Pork Adobo: A rich, slow-cooked comfort food classic seasoned with soy sauce, vinegar, and garlic.
  • Classic Pancit: Savory rice noodles tossed with vegetables. In Filipino tradition, noodles symbolize long life and the coming together of community.
  • Creamy Leche Flan: A sweet caramel custard dessert that is sure to steal the show on a sunny afternoon.

Fostering Friendship and Heritage

This picnic is a wonderful opportunity to promote awareness of and interest in Filipino culture and heritage right here in Allen. It is a space designed to foster mutual love, loyalty, and respect across different cultural backgrounds. Whether you are a long-time resident or a new family settling into the area, you will find a warm place to belong and plenty of friendly faces.

And if you’re not Filipino, don’t worry. We love you too, so come on out.

Come hungry, bring your loved ones, and let’s celebrate community together!
